What’s the digital equivalent of hiding a USB stick behind a loose brick?
Welcome to Frag & Recon — where I try out weird or tactical tech to see what breaks. In this post, I’m testing a few popular anonymous or privacy-respecting file drop tools: OnionShare, Lufi, Dropgang-style services, and others.
Each tool was tested for:
– Usability
– Metadata handling
– How much trust is required to use it safely
– Whether I could realistically use it in a field OSINT situation
Results ranged from ‘surprisingly slick’ to ‘digital duct tape holding a banana together.’ I’ll share screenshots, notes, and my own ‘Monkey Approved?’ rating system for each.
Expect a few surprises — and maybe a tool or two you’ll want to add to your own kit.
Visual created with help from Microsoft Copilot — no monkeys were harmed in the making.
